Neurotoxins (BOTOX, Dysport)

What is a neurotoxin?

Neurotoxins are a very safe and highly effective treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles formed as a result of facial expression. Neurotoxins work by relaxing the muscle and creating a younger, fresher, and more rested appearance.

How many units will I need?

Most treatment areas require 10 to 20 units. After evaluation with our specialist, we will design a treatment tailored specifically for you and let you know the number of units required to meet your goals. Below is an interactive application that shows you how many units of a particular neurotoxin are typically injected in a specific area of treatment.

How long does it last?

Neurotoxins last 3 to 4 months for most patients. Repeated maintenance treatments are required for wrinkle prevention.

When will I see results?

BOTOX usually starts to work at 3-7 days, but the full effect can take up to 14 days. Occasionally, an injection does not have a sufficient effect and a touch-up is necessary.

What should I do before and after my treatment?

  • Before -- Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil and other anti-inflammatory supplements for 48 hours prior to treatment.
  • After -- Refrain from any exercise for 24 hours. Do not lay down for 4 hours post treatment. Facial massage is not recommended for 24 hours.
